North Wales International Poetry Festival comes to Mold

Next Sunday (7th October) sees the first North Wales International Poetry Festival come to the region. A series of events will be taking place from 1st October in Bangor, Aberystwyth, and Machynlleth, with the final event showcased by local arts promoters at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold.

A private lunch, attended by Geoff Collett Mayor of Mold, will be held for the poets at the Town Hall with home-cooked food created by volunteers from both Flintshare and Cittaslow Mold.

This unique festival will then start at 4pm at Clywd Theatr Cymru, bringing leading poets from around Europe to Mold for a unique encounter between cultures. Presented with translation into Welsh and English, this is a chance to hear some of the most vibrant contemporary voices in their own languages, including Morten Søndergaard (Danish), Julia Fiedorczuk (Polish), Jeroen Theunissen (Belgian Flemish), Anja Utler (German) and Katerina Iliopoulou (Greek), Eduard Escoffet (Catalan) Estíbaliz Espinosa (Galician) and the Swedish-born multilingual poet Cia Rinne. If it is sometimes said that poetry is what is lost in translation, this event will show what is gained when different ways of looking at the world spark each other into life.

The event will be introduced by Zoë Skoulding, editor of Poetry Wales Magazine.
