Aylsham ‘Wide Sky’ Festival

Aylsham Wide Sky Festival

Aylsham Wide Sky Festival

Three years ago Cittaslow Aylsham encouraged the establishment of an Aylsham Festival whose ethos  is to celebrate aspects of Aylsham life through involving local schools, businesses, churches, societies and library, as well as the local National Trust property Blickling Hall, in events and activities.

In doing so the Festival creates experiences that cover the arts and sciences and focus in on individual businesses.  Local people of all ages, as well as visitors to our lovely town, are given an opening to share their own knowledge as well as be stimulated by visits from experts and entertainers along the theme.
2013 has seen our third Festival which took place 23-28 May this year.

The theme ‘Paths and Patterns’ allowed us to stretch our imagination from an interactive textile project which attracted almost 100 pieces of work, to walks around the local countryside and events on the Bure Valley Railway. Talks and discussions on memory, poetry and much more were complemented by a sell out performance in the Town Hall of the play ‘The Canada Boys’ about young workers at Colman’s Mustard Norwich factory who were encouraged to emigrate to Canada. The beautiful Aylsham Parish Church meanwhile was the venue for yet another wonderful Britten Sinfonia concert which also attracted a sell out audience.
