The Christmas light switch on in Aylsham is always a big event and 2019 was no exception.
The weather was not the best, which was slightly ironic as Anglia TV weatherman Chris Page switched on the lights!
An abundance of stalls, food outlets and town shops were as busy as ever in anticipation of the lights coming on at 6:30. However, at 6:20 a fire broke out at Bonds chip shop on Red Lion Street; many people thought the fire engine was part of the entertainment to start with! Fortunately no one was hurt during the incident, but it did lead to the closure of Red Lion Street and the attendance of nine fire engines from various stations in Norfolk. They stayed in place ensuring the fire did not break out again until 9am the next day.
Despite the event interruption, everyone had a great time and the event was deemed a huge success.
